Losing weight can be quite a challenge. This is especially true if you are in your 30s. There are a lot of factors that can make it more difficult for you to shed out those extra pounds such as stress, childbirth, chronic illness, or trying to have a social life. Luckily, there are strategies out there that can help you lose weight without destroying yourself. I know that for sure because I have managed to lose over 40 pounds (and counting) after having twin girls- and still going strong. Now if I can do it, then you can too. The main focus is discipline, motivation, and having some fun.

Here are Nine Things currently supporting my weight loss journey

Supplements

The great part about supplements is that they provide you with plenty of vitamins, nutrition, and anything that your normal diet may have left out. It pretty much replenishes everything you need to live a healthy lifestyle. Keep in mind that there are supplements out there that can help increase your metabolism so you can convert your food into energy at a faster rate. This can, in turn, help you lose weight without the headaches. Supplements that I currently use are Black Seed oil, Bragg’s Apple Cider vinegar, Spring Valley Acidophilus Probiotics, Bigeow Green Tea, Nature’s Nutrition Turmeric, and Centrum Women multivitamins.

Myfitnesspal App

Sometimes, keeping up with your workout progress, calories, and the number of calories burned can give you a migraine. After all, it requires a lot of attention, organizational skills, and math. Luckily, there is an amazing app called MyFitnessPal that can help you track the number of calories that you have taken in and the amount that you have burned through going to the gym or working out at home. That way, you will know if you are on track or steering off the road.

Pinterest

Cooking a healthy meal can be a challenge. It’s hard to find creative ideas to work with on a daily basis. Luckily, with Pinterest, you can check out thousands upon thousands of healthy recipes, meal plans, detox water, and smoothies that people have posted to help support your healthy lifestyle transition.

Pinterest can prove to be a great social community for nurturing your weight loss journey. It gives you a chance to share your ideas, experiences, and either document your own weight loss journey or find inspiration from other people’s before and after transformation pictures.

Youtube Video and Home Fitness Training

If you live a busy lifestyle, like me, where you don’t have time to go to the gym on a daily basis or can’t afford it, you can still work out at home. All you have to do is turn on your computer or smart TV, go to YouTube, and find the best fitness workout video program to compliment your style. I have various YouTube channels that I’ve subscribed to for different workout programs. My personal favorites are Superherofitness TV (Hip Hop Dance Tabata and strength training), Jumprope Dudes (beginner, intermediate, and advanced cardio jump rope training), and for a variety of EVERYTHING, I like PopSugar and BeFit. They make it sooo easy to get a calorie burning intense workout straight from the comfort of your own home.

Water Intake

We often take water for granted, but it’s important to stay hydrated especially if you are trying to lose weight. Our G.I. system utilizes water to perfuse itself so it can have the strength to digest the food you eat. It’s important to drink at least 2 L of water per day- the equivalent to 8 oz glasses.

Drinking the purified bottle waters normally does the job for me. I try to drink at least 4-5 of these a day. So, let’s do the math… Each bottled water is 16.9 oz, right? So drinking five bottles of water per day would put us at 84.5 oz per day- converted into liters that’s 2.5 liters of water. Tada! Your water intake for the day has been fulfilled.

If you want to get fancy with your water, you can add sliced cucumber, mint leaves, lime, and even fruit to provide you with extra electrolytes and fiber to energize and regulate your digestive system. These are often referred to as detox water. You can find a plethora of recipes for these drinks on Pinterest. Many of them are delicious and can provide a myriad of health benefits for your body.

Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. The problem is, we often skip breakfast to sleep in or to get to work on time. Little did we know that skipping breakfast would only leave us sluggish, hungry, and craving for more food during lunch and dinner. When that happens, we end up eating a huge amount of food, which can make it pretty hard to digest. If we focus on eating healthy like oatmeal or whole grain cereal for breakfast, it will keep us focused and energized throughout the day. We will less likely to overeat and our insulin and sugar level would be well regulated.

I have never been a big breakfast eater, but I had to adopt better eating habits the more serious that I became about transitioning to a healthier lifestyle. So, I keep it small and simple. Oatmeal or wheat toast with peanut butter or scrambeled egg/ boiled egg with a slice of bacon are my normal choices for breakfast. Like I said small and simple.

Light Lunch

It is tempting to go to McDonald’s to get yourself a burger, but that will only cause a significant amount of weight gain and completely eliminate the calorie burning efforts of any workout that you’ve completed for that day. A light lunch with low-calorie foods such as salad, turkey sandwich, or fruit protein smoothies helps me keep the weight off.

Dinner

One of the most common mistakes that people make is eating dinner at a later time like nine p.m.. when you go to bed; your metabolism slows down so you won’t be able to digest the food that you ate until morning. This can cause an increase absorption of fat, therefore, leading to an unnecessary weight-gain. The best time to have dinner is between 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM. It will give you enough time to digest before you go to bed. It’s important to eat a healthy meal with an appropriate portion to conduct a healthy weight loss.

The Science of Food

This is the time to do your research to know what type of food you should avoid or consume. You can consult with a nutritionist or a health coach to get an idea of what to expect. The healthy type of food to eat for weight loss would be high protein, low-fat, high fiber, white meat, and plenty of fruits and vegetables. It’s important to stay away from carbohydrates like pasta, rice, and bread.

The most important thing about weight loss is to make sure that you are doing it in a healthy way. A lot of people try to lose weight at a short amount of time, and this can lead to fatigue, lack of nutrition, and relapse. When you go through a gradual weight loss journey, you learn to eat healthy, and your body will slowly adapt to the lifestyle change. When that happens, you turn your weight-loss journey into a daily habit and routine. That way, you are more likely to commit to implementing these healthy routines in your life.

The Wrap Up

I personally know how it feels- the up’s and down’s of weight loss. Been dealing with it all my life. Even though I have witnessed a major improvement, I still have a long ways to go. I recognized that it can be difficult to sustain success in all aspects of my life when my physical health is not at its optimal level. After all, my family, career, and husband are happier and most productive if I’m at my best. This is why I am looking forward to the future and to inspire and motivate other people out there to join me on a journey towards better fitness and health.
