Every work from home entrepreneur needs an inspirational workspace. An area within their home where they can focus, create, and optimize their productivity- get things done! A place of comfort and a place enabled to tackle the most challenging task.
What is the current state of your home office? Do you even have one? Or are you a traveling from room to room nomad with no identifiable personal workspace to call your own?
Well if you’re not flying solo and you share a home with a spouse and kids like myself, it can be difficult sometimes to create a space just for you. Tight spaces. Potential distractions. It can be tough. Whatever your circumstances, start somewhere- anywhere with what you have. If you are fortunate enough to locate a physical workspace or area in your home, that you can claim as your own, it should tell a story. It should make you feel a certain way. It should excite you and motivate you to keep going on the hard days.
The design of your home office might not seem that important at first, particularly, if you don’t have clients or colleagues frequenting your space. Most people don’t give a lot of consideration to the presentation of their home office. However, If you are fortunate enough to have a physical workspace in your home, even if that is in a section of a room used for other purposes, you should make sure that space is as unique and personal as you are. Your workspace should make you feel content, it should excite and motivate you, and most of all, it should be a space where you want to be.
Why Your Environment Matters?
In the world of work-at-home entrepreneurs, it can be extremely challenging to switch off from the everyday distractions of the home. You need to create a space that allows you develop creatively, grow in productivity, and focus on your goals. You need an environment that instantly uplifts your mood and where you can work in peace, feeling as if you are away from the hustle and bustle of the family home. I feel content in my home office, I know I can depend on feeling at peace there, and that I will draw encouragement and inspiration from that sense of contentment.
How to Create an Inspirational Work Environment
Natural lighting can decrease eyestrain, drowsiness, and headaches. Ideally, a home office will be located in a room which has large windows and natural lighting. However, this is not always possible and working at home, often includes working after dark or early in the morning before the sun has come up. The solution to this is daylight bulbs, which are similar to natural light and provide the perfect ambience for working.
It is important to consider the mood that you want to convey in your home office. Certain colors evoke certain feelings. Blue is very calming, yellow is bright and uplifting whilst green is a great color for a home office, since it is associated with prosperity and is said to help reduce anxiety.
Plants have a positive effect on any space. They are particularly useful in the home office, because they have health boosting properties. They improve the air quality, which in turn, boosts productivity and focuses attention.
Stylish Comfortable Furniture
A spacious desk with plenty of storage is a great asset in a home office, it will make it easier for you to work in comfort and you will be able to store things so that you can easily find them.
A bookcase will allow you to keep any relevant textbooks or manuals to hand, allowing you to quickly refer to them if necessary.
A comfortable chair is essential. This will ensure that you maintain good posture, boosting your productivity.
Ideally your office space should be set up with a designated area for brainstorming. You should keep to hand a whiteboard, some post-it-notes, and a selection of markers for brain dumping sessions.
This is your opportunity to personalize your space. Perhaps you wish to display a globe, a favorite painting, or photos of the family. You should personalize your home office, just as you would your office when you work outside the home in a professionanl work envionment. This will help you feel more comfortable and as if you are in a ‘work zone’.
You should have plenty of resources to help keep you organized: A calendar, a wall organizer and storage bins.
Essential in any office these days. You should select technology which will help you to foster innovative ideas. Naturally, you will have a PC or Mac, but you might also want to include smart speakers, a digital photo frame and headphones.
Vision Board or Wall
Having your goals in front of you all of the time will ensure that you keep inspired, creative and receptive to new ideas whilst not losing sight of your focus.
Make sure that you add plenty of personality to your home office. This is your chance to display your mug collection, pens gifted by clients, beautiful wall décor, and scented candles, not to mention holiday souvenirs and postcards.
The Wrap Up
Working from home can be exhilarating. However, it is essential that your home office is not just convenient, but that is a comfortable and inspiring environment. By making small changes to your home office, you can turn it into a professional haven within, but apart from, your home. By working from home, you can make everything in your life work for you.
